Today was knitting at my favorite LYS Ewephoria. I was there on Thursday looking at a skein of yarn that caught my eye, despite the price tag, a couple of weeks ago.
Anyone who knows me knows I don’t buy a yarn without a project in mind. I also don’t like to have a stash. I knit my yarn just as fast as I can. The only exception to this is sock yarn. When I see a good price or a color I know hubby would really like I get it. That said, you should also know that he exclusively wears hand knit socks so I’m no slouch when it comes to getting them done. My new sock goal is to get him enough socks in the correct fiber for the season to last a week without doing laundry. Cottons for summer, wool for winter. Right now he wears cotton and wool year ’round.
Anyway, I have quite a few projects lined up but I saw this yarn a couple of weeks back and it has stayed on my mind. Finally I had to admit that I needed to buy it. Of course I can’t buy anything without a project in mind so Ravelry to the rescue!
I knew it needed to be a shawl. I really like the Faroese style so off I went. I narrowed it down pretty quickly to 3 choices.
First was the Faroese Flower Shawl. I eventually eliminated this one because it was a little fussier than I wanted the pattern to be. This yarn needs to be the star of the show. The pattern needs to showcase.
Second was the Follow the Leader Faroese Shawl and third was the Shetland Lace Patterned Faroese Shawl. Both would work and so today I printed out the web pages and took them to Ewephoria.
I showed the patterns to Mary and Linda. Linda pulled out the yarn that she had so nicely put behind the counter for me and it was quickly decided that the yarn needed to be the Shetland Lace Patterned Faroese Shawl when it grew up. It was just Right.
Then of course I had to take pictures because as much as I wanted to, I couldn’t bring the yarn home with me today. With much batting of the eyelashes and promises to forfeit everything dear to me should I fail to purchase the yarn, Mary has agreed to hold onto it for me until I get paid next month.
They laughed at me quite a bit as I sat there knitting on my current project and talking to the yarn. I did attempt to take pictures but I’m still not sure that they show off the glory that is my next yarn purchase. Now I just need to knit like the wind so I can finish up what is on my plate and be ready to knit this shawl.
And now…the pictures

Wow, it sure is beautiful yarn! It’s worth being teased a bit to have them hold it for you – I can’t wait until it comes home with you. And I can’t wait to see you get started on the shawl.
